Columbus, GA – April 30, 2025 –Columbus United Football Club is proud to announce that AJ McClung Memorial Stadium will be the official new home of the club, marking a historic moment as the iconic venue celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2025.

Originally built in 1925, AJ McClung Memorial Stadium has long stood as a cornerstone of athletic tradition in Columbus. 

Over the past century, it has hosted a wide array of sporting events, becoming a beloved community landmark. The stadium has been home to legendary college football matchups, including the storied "Fountain City Classic" between Albany State University and Fort Valley State University. It also hosted the annual rivalry games between Tuskegee University and Morehouse College, bringing thousands of fans together in celebration of HBCU excellence. It is also known to our ownership group and others where they got the chance to watch US vs Mexico U-16 play in the mid 80's as the soccer loving generation began. Co-Managing Partners Michael Hitchcock and John Dale Hester both vividly remember watching the match and being able spend time with the US team and coaching staff.  “We are thrilled to once again to be bringing high level soccer this historic venue” said Hitchcock and Hester.  

Beyond football and futbol, the stadium has welcomed track and field events, community sports programs, and civic gatherings, embodying the spirit of unity and athletic excellence across generations.

Now, as Columbus United FC makes its mark, the club is honored to carry that legacy forward, blending the energy of minor league soccer with a century of history. Fans can expect an electrifying match-day experience in a venue that echoes with the triumphs of teams past and the promise of victories to come.
