Columbus United FC Announces Stewart Flaherty as Head Coach

Columbus, GA - Columbus United FC is proud to announce Stewart Flaherty as the club’s new Head Coach ahead of the 2026 season.

Flaherty brings 17 years of NCAA coaching experience across all three divisions, along with success at both the professional and USL League Two levels. He spent two seasons in NISA, helping the Michigan Stars win the 2022 National Championship and two Independent Cups, and has coached nine seasons in USL League Two with Portland Phoenix and Denton Diablos.

General Manager Eleni Hitchcock said Flaherty’s experience and approach to the game made him a natural fit for the club’s vision.

“We are excited to welcome Stewart to Columbus United,” Hitchcock said. “His extensive coaching background across the college, pre-professional, and professional levels speaks for itself. More importantly, his passion for developing players and building a strong team culture aligns perfectly with what we’re building here in Columbus, both on and off the pitch.”

Flaherty said the opportunity to work with people he trusts and a club with a clear direction made the decision an easy one.

“When the job came up, it was a perfect alignment,” Flaherty said. “I know Michael Hitchcock and Eleni, and I feel most confident when I’m working around good people. That’s what was attractive about Columbus.”

He added that creating a strong environment for both players and the community will be a major focus.

“The intent is to create an environment where we all take pride and enjoyment in what we do,” Flaherty said. “We’re going to give everything we have, and we hope to represent the community with pride.”

Columbus United FC continues to build momentum as the club prepares for the upcoming season, with additional roster and staff announcements expected in the coming days and weeks.
